International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations
(IISNC) under auspices of UNESCO is the intergovernmental
organization established by five countries and hosted by
Mongolian government in Ulaanbaatar since 1998. The
main goal of this institute is to study nomadic cultures
around the world, support the development planners and
decision makers in formulating policies, and help the
nomadic people to overcome challenges they encounter. It
has four programmes focusing on Nomads and sustainable
development, Nomads and social transformation,
Intercultural dialogue in today’s world, and Nomadic
cultural values and heritages.
IISNC is seeking for the candidates for the position of 1) two
external relations officers and 2) two programme officers as
part of its ongoing reform. We require applicants to be
ethical and moral for studying different cultures and avoid
any cultural ethnocentric views.
We will provide an interesting opportunity for career
development and experience in both academic and
applied research at the UNESCO and member States.
Salaries for these positions will be in accordance with
Mongolian government’s salary scales for academic
researchers and the institute will provide extra pay from
research projects acquired. Early career researchers and
women are encouraged to apply for this job opening.
• MA degree or above in social sciences
• Especially in social and cultural anthropology, sociology, political science, human geography, international relations, and languages
and culture studies
• Or other relevant disciplines in humanities
• Good command of English is essential
